A Little Words About Us

Located on Gomeroi/Gamilaroi/Kamilaroi Country in Moree, NSW

MACCI is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit arts centre founded in November 2023 by Dr. Moj Habibi, Jenni Birch, Claus Bredow, and Peter Birch. Born from open clay sessions in community spaces and formalised in 2023, MACCI operates as a living classroom where making and care come together. The centre offers shared studios, kilns and wheels, a library, and regular programs including Clay & Coffee, Clay & Sip, First Nations women’s workshops, youth days, and open studios.

Mission and Objectives: The Moree Arts Community Centre Incorporated is established to be a charity whose purpose is to advance art and culture within the Moree Plains communities by:
  • Promoting an awareness of and appreciation of Community Arts
  • Educating the community in the arts
  • Creating and producing art and culture for public exhibition
  • Providing the opportunity for the Moree Plains communities to express themselves artistically by providing for instruction and participation in various art forms including ceramics
  • To promote education and support the culture of the local First Nations’ people by providing for instruction and participation in various art forms

MACCI supports First Nations participation

We uses clay as a language of connection to Country, healing, and cultural continuity. The centre’s exhibitions and projects highlight contemporary ceramic practice across sculptural and functional forms, with attention to material intelligence, handbuilding and wheel techniques, and considered surface. Working with local partners and artists, MACCI nurtures confidence, belonging, and community pride while advancing intercultural dialogue through art.
